Game changer for vaccine hesitancy? Two states to fund nasal flu vaccine for children

GP Dr Nick Yim says funding for FluMist in the UK has boosted vaccination rates.

Both Queensland and NSW will fund nasal flu vaccination for children aged 2-4 from next year, health officials say.

AMA Queensland president Dr Nick Yim, a GP, said use of FluMist had significantly boosted childhood flu vaccination rates in the UK.

Currently in Queensland, just 20% of children under five were vaccinated, he said.

“This year’s flu season saw a significant rise in cases and hospitalisations, putting pressure on our EDs and even requiring a pause in elective surgeries at major Brisbane hospitals.
