UK medical college claims former members who use its postnominals breach medical board standards
If you think medical colleges in Australia often lack the gentle touch, spare a thought for specialists in the UK should they do the wrong thing with their postnominals.
Debate is running here about whether its OK to use your fellowship postnominals when you quit your college to save on the hefty membership fees.
As we reported last week, Professor Owen Ung, president of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, said the college fellowship is not technically a qualification; arguing that the FRACS is only for those who show a continuing professional commitment to the college (and its CPD program).
If you leave, he said, so do the letters after your name.
