UK hand surgeons have warned dog owners about the safest way to hold a lead, following an upswing in hand injuries at a southern England hospital.

The British Hand Surgeons provided the advice after surgeon Rebecca Dunlop noted an increase in such injuries at her hospital the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, Cornwall.

Dog owners are at risk of lacerations, friction burns, fractures and ligament injuries, warns the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, according to a BBC News report.
