‘Unique’ care cornerstone of domestic violence support, says GP expert

The RACGP's Dr Marina Malcolm announces a new CPD-accredited training course on responding to domestic and family violence

GPs are being urged to sign up for new RACGP training on domestic violence, amid reports of rising demand for services during the pandemic.

The one-year program has been developed in response to the 2015 Royal Commission into Family Violence which recommended CPD training for GPs on the issue.

The college says it will run for a year and is being funded through the state government in Victoria, where domestic and family violence services have reported increased demand during lockdowns.

The training is available to GPs across Australia; although the college advised some content is specific to Victorian legislation and a new state-baed information-sharing scheme.
