Heel pain is rife among middle-aged patients, but one patient has turned a common ailment into a unique injury, breaking off the calcaneal spur on both heels in a fall.

The 53-year-old woman presented to the orthopaedic outpatient clinic of the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, India, with a two-month history of heel pain.

The woman explained she’d had a fall about nine months earlier, from a height of around 90cm, followed by sudden onset pain in both heels, doctors report in BMJ Case Reports.

Her heels were very painful for about two weeks after the fall, but the pain had subsided with ice packs and painkillers. However, the pain then recurred two months before presenting to the clinic.
