Universal Medicine lawyers could face ombudsman over ‘demeaning’ letter

Serge Benhayon, the spiritual leader of the alleged cult Universal Medicine, has been branded a charlatan and a manipulator who preys on the vulnerable.
Now solicitors involved in his three year defamation battle against a former client could also be in trouble after the NSW Supreme Court accused them of sending a 31-page abusive letter on the day of her father’s funeral.
Last year, the former tennis coach lost his defamation case against Esther Rockett, who wrote a series of blogs on her time with the group and accused him of preying on cancer patients and engaging in sexual manipulation to make money for his business.
On Thursday, Justice Julia Lonergan ordered Mr Benhayon pay Ms Rockett’s legal costs, which are expected to exceed $1.2 million.
