Urgent care clinics – what exactly are they doing for general practice?

This story has been updated with a correction on the numbers attending Westmead Hospital’s ED.
It comes as a visual jolt. Walking through the doors at Wentworthville Medical Centre, the familiar props of a GP practice suddenly vanish, replaced by the furnishings of a hospital ED.
The line of beds, the stainless steel surfaces, the monitors, the alarms, the machines that go ping.
It perhaps lacks the frenzy of Saturday night at Westmead Hospital, the real ED 20 minutes down the road.
