After more than 25 years, the traditional Chinese medicine degree offered by the University of Technology Sydney is to be axed.

The decision to close the course at the end of 2021 came after a review found the program had poor financial viability and failed to provide enough research output.

It also no longer fitted within the “strategic direction” the faculty of science was taking, according to a statement on the university’s website outlining the review outcome.

“The decision to review, and to discontinue, the traditional Chinese medicine programs is in no way a reflection of an institutional bias against complementary healthcare,” the review said.
