Vaccine rollout for those with disabilities ‘seriously deficient’: Royal commission

It says no state or territory should ease COVID-19 restrictions until everyone has the opportunity to be vaccinated

No state or territory should be allowed to reopen until every Australian with a disability has been given a genuine chance to be fully vaccinated, a royal commission has told the Federal Government.

In a draft report published on Monday, it says the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines to people with disabilities and their carers has been “seriously deficient”.

It goes on to warn that lives will be endangered if restrictions ease when state and territories hit the 70% double vaccination target.

“Without that opportunity [to be vaccinated], they face significant risks to their health if they contract COVID-19,” the report says.
