‘Very concerning’: Unregistered doctor worked in ED for six days

Police and AHPRA are looking into how an unregistered IMG treated patients in an ED for nearly a week

Investigations are underway into how an unregistered doctor gained access to an SA ED, where he allegedly treated patients for almost a week earlier this month.

SA Health chief executive Dr Robyn Lawrence said it was “very concerning” that the IMG had worked at Port Augusta Hospital for six days before his lack of registration came to light.

He had been offered an intern position with SA Health, and had been undertaking education sessions, but had not yet been employed because confirmation of his registration had not been received, Dr Lawrence said.

“The man was not an employee of the hospital at the time he provided treatment to the patients, nor was he registered as a medical practitioner with AHPRA,” Dr Lawrence told reporters in Adelaide on Thursday.
