Why ‘weaponised’ complaints to AHPRA are rarely punished

A slew of complaints against doctors expressing views on the Israel–Gaza conflict has reignited concerns that anonymous complaints to AHPRA are being weaponised against doctors.
AHPRA says it withholds the names of complainants in about 17% of cases involving doctors.
Another 2% of complaints are totally anonymous — even AHPRA does not know the complainant’s name.
There is obviously a balancing act between protecting complainants and letting doctors respond to allegations armed with all the facts.
