State Govt will cover the cost of pharmacist consults for 20 medical conditions including diabetes and hypertension

Victorian pharmacists with extra training will manage and prescribe S4 drugs for type 2 diabetes, hypertension and allergies through taxpayer-funded consultations, Premier Jacinta Allen says.
Tuesday’s state budget massively expands pharmacists’ powers from the current pilot that covers UTIs, shingles, psoriasis flare-ups and oral contraceptive pill resupplies, which will become permanent.
It follows Queensland’s pharmacist prescribing program, which started in 2024 and has involved 1350 consultations so far.
“This budget invests a further $18 million to enable pharmacists to treat more Victorians with more conditions without a trip to the doctor for a prescription,” Ms Allen said.
