Victorian GPs will join their interstate peers in being allowed to diagnose and treat ADHD for both adults and children under State Government reforms announced Tuesday.

It’s the final state to allow GPs greater responsibility in ADHD care, following similar reforms in WA, Queensland, NSW, Tasmania and SA.

An initial cohort of 150 GPs will be offered training by September, under the $750,000 initiative to deliver the first round of accredited training.

Currently, adults in Victoria must be diagnosed and prescribed medication by a psychiatrist, while children must be seen by a paediatrician or psychiatrist.
