A team of 10 GPs employed by the Tasmanian Government will be “deployed at a moment’s notice” to rescue struggling practices under a radical election pledge.

State Premier Jeremy Rockliff revealed the policy on Sunday as part of his fight for re-election, dubbing it the GP NOW Rapid Response Team.

He has acknowledged the plan is a bit “different”.

But he says Tasmania has struggled with GP practices going under, with the State and Federal Governments both stepping in to help keep them afloat in the last few months.
