Warning after turmeric-based supplement linked to perforated gallbladder: case study
US doctors are highlighting the dangers of turmeric-based supplements, especially in patients with biliary conditions, after treating a rare case of a perforated gallbladder linked to large doses of curcumin.
Their 69-year-old patient presented to the ED at the State University of New York medical centre with non-exertional epigastric and chest pain, fever and diaphoresis.
He had a history of cholelithiasis, coronary artery disease and arterial hypertension.
His medications included aspirin, rosuvastatin, fluoxetine, metoprolol succinate and tamsulosin.
