Warning over defecation-induced sudden death

US doctors says the condition is under recognised and potentially preventable

US doctors are reporting the case of a patient who died of cardiac arrest while defecating in a bid to highlight the “unrecognised” cause of sudden death in patients with cardiac issues.

The patient’s death also serves as a reminder that similar tragedies can be avoided though preventing constipation, according to the report from the University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute in Cleveland, Ohio.
