Watching her GP father’s exhausting battle with the system turns this young doctor off general practice

When Dr Tiani Pakos started studying medicine, she thought she might follow in her dad’s footsteps.
But as she watched his growing professional frustrations in recent years, general practice shuffled down her list of favoured specialties.
It had been one of her top choices earlier on, but she says she has decided to stay in the hospital system for now.
“Dad’s obviously been a big inspiration to me,” says Dr Pakos, 27, who is about to head to Darwin to start a three-month RMO placement in oncology.
