Will GPs ever be replaced with AI?

AusDoc would have been sceptical until a free-to-use iteration of AI called ChatGPT allegedly passed the US medical licensing exam.

Doctors typed exam questions into the web program’s chat function and were so surprised it passed that they wrote a paper on it, which was published as a preprint on medRxiv and is due to appear in the pages of PLOS Digital Health.

ChatGPT and similar programs base their answers on a mix of automated internet searches and ‘teaching’ themselves — using the questions put to them as further information to inform future answers.
