Sometimes intensivists are glad to be wrong, according to the doctor who treated the sole survivor of the death cap mushroom poisonings.
Associate Professor Stephen Warrillow, who led the Melbourne ICU team that cared for all four victims, has described the moment that Ian Wilkinson stopped deteriorating, against all medical expectations.
“We were extremely worried about him. We thought he was in a situation where survival appeared unlikely,” Professor Warrillow, the director of intensive care at Austin Health, tells AusDoc.
“That was pretty tough news to share with his family.
