‘We try to give patients hope that things will get better’: GP at pelvic pain clinic

When Dr Andrew Leech started his pelvic pain clinic, his number one focus was endometriosis.
But six months in, he has learnt “not all pelvic pain is endometriosis”, and that some patients hope an endometriosis diagnosis will finally explain their symptoms only to be dismayed when it is not borne out.
“We went in thinking we really needed to find out if this was endometriosis,” he says.
“But now our approach is to sort out the pain and help the patient feel better regardless of the diagnosis.”
