We want PIP and expanded Health Care Homes, say physicians

Physicians say they should have access to general practice-based programs like the Practice Incentive Program and Health Care Homes to boost care for patients with chronic conditions.
The Royal Australasian College of Physicians says it wants a “new model” of health funding to allow other specialists — not just GPs — to take on roles in primary and community care.
“Fundamental to this goal is ‘system supported connectivity’ between primary care and specialist services and a genuine placement of patients at the centre of the care design,” it says in a wish-list of policies it is pushing during the federal election campaign.
Among the college’s ideas is for PIP payments to encourage non-GP specialists and their patients to take up My Health Record.
