AHPRA says it could begin fast-tracking re-registrations of recently retired doctors willing to come back and assist in the response to COVID-19.

The regulator says among its options is to waive requirements such as formal ‘return to practice’ plans but it expects that most doctors volunteering would have to work under some form of supervision.

Two Australian states – Queensland and WA –  issued calls this week for expressions of interest to help with the outbreak.

And Queensland AMA is suggesting retired doctors could help with contact tracing and staffing of health information hotlines.
