‘Some people are not going to be happy’: Paediatrician tasked with investigating NDIS alternatives for kids with autism
Dr Mike Freelander will lead a parliamentary inquiry into the design of Thriving Kids, the program that will replace the National Disability Insurance Scheme for tens of thousands of children with autism and developmental delays.
The Labor member for Macarthur in Western Sydney still practises occasionally as a paediatrician, watching firsthand as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) transforms lives.
However, he also sees voters losing faith in the NDIS as it becomes “all things to all people”.
“Most paediatricians I have spoken to, and I speak to my medical colleagues all the time, feel we need to review the NDIS and particularly the supports for young children,” he told AusDoc.
