Weight-loss doctor banned after ‘reprehensible’ prescribing

The medical director of a weight-loss clinic, which bore “remarkable similarities” to notorious impotency outfit Advanced Medical Institute, has been struck off for at least 12 months.
Last year, Dr Thomas Goyer was found guilty of professional misconduct for prescribing allegedly “breakthrough” weight-loss treatments to patients over the phone.
At the time, he was working for the Medical Weightloss Institute, which sold 2500 patients various compounded medicines, including the stimulant phentermine, sublingual drops of human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) and injectable hCG.
Under the business model, Dr Goyer did not consult with the patient face-to-face, but would order blood tests after talking to them either on the phone or online.
