‘Welcome news’: TGA green-lights first endometriosis treatment in a decade

The TGA has green-lit a new endometriosis medication for the first time in 13 years, expanding the indication of a combination pill used to treat uterine fibroid symptoms.
The once daily pill contains GnRH antagonist relugolix 40mg with estradiol 1mg and norethisterone 0.5mg.
Under the expanded indication, doctors can prescribe it to treat endometriosis symptoms such as dysmenorrhoea in women who have tried other medications or undergone surgery for the condition.
Drug sponsor Gedeon Richter Australia said GPs can issue private scripts for up to two years before a medical assessment from a gynaecologist is required to extend the treatment.
