‘We’re ready,’ says doctors’ petition to reopen WA border

More than 2000 people, including high profile doctors, have signed the petition to open the state's border in February as planned

Doctors in WA have launched a petition calling on the state government to stick with its original border reopening plan, arguing the state’s health system is as ready as it ever will be to manage COVID-19.

Perth anaesthetist Dr Luke Torre launched the petition over the weekend, and more than 2000 people, including doctors, had signed it by the end of Monday.

High profile doctors such as former AMA President Dr Michael Gannon and media commentator Dr Joe Kosterich are among the signatories.

The move follows the WA Government’s backflip last Friday on its promise to reopen the state’s border by 5 February, saying it wanted to wait until more people were vaccinated against the virus.
