‘We’ve nailed it’: Doctor describes how his ED has fixed ambulance ramping

Dr Gabriel Blecher says his hospital has introduced three new ideas to slash ramping times.

Ambulance ramping is no longer a worry for emergency specialist Dr Gabriel Blecher.

Unlike many other EDs across the country, Frankston Hospital in the south of Melbourne has more than halved its average ambulance transfer time in just one year.

It now takes an average of 18 minutes to transfer an ambulance patient from the care of paramedics to the Frankston ED — almost 29 minutes faster than the Victorian average.

“We have kind of got that nailed,” Dr Blecher tells AusDoc.
