What GPs need to know in new anaphylaxis action plans

Anaphylaxis action plans for patients with life-threatening allergies have been revamped to highlight the danger of standing and walking during anaphylaxis.
The Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) has updated a number of its plans to highlight the need for patients to remain still during anaphylaxis.
Earlier this month it released a revised action plan for Anapen, and in June one for Epipen, which both placed emphasis on this factor.
Dr Katie Frith, chair of ASCIA’s Anaphylaxis Committee, said the change reflected a 2016 review that found standing or sitting up suddenly is a specific risk factor for a fatal reaction.
