GPs across Australia are awaiting full details of their role in vaccinating the nation against COVID-19.

The expectation is that the Pfizer vaccine will gain TGA approval first and be administered to priority groups in 30-50 dedicated ‘hubs’, likely to be hospitals.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine will then follow, with vaccinations done mainly through GP practices to ensure proper medical supervision.

But a picture of the possible future is already available in the UK, where GPs and their teams have administered more than two million Pfizer vaccine doses and are now beginning to administer the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
