If you’ve got it, flaunt it — that’s the message from a study showing patients prefer doctors who display diplomas in the background of their video consults.

The research revealed that patients rated doctors with visible certificates as more knowledgeable, trustworthy and caring.

Based on a survey of 1200 adults, two-thirds of patients preferred to view their doctor in a traditional doctor’s office setting, with offices that displayed diplomas ranked the highest and preferred by 35% of patients.

This setting also scored the highest when patients were asked to rank how knowledgeable, trustworthy, caring, approachable and professional a doctor appeared according to their video background, as well as how comfortable they would feel seeing that doctor.
