When a GP at your practice dies: ‘It leaves a gaping hole in people’s lives’
There are emotional, practical and legal considerations when a practice loses a doctor, says Dr Mariam Bahemia.

Dr Mariam Bahemia was 19 when her father, a GP, died from a heart attack.
She was a second-year medical student working at his practice.
“I loved working with him, he was my hero,” she says.
It led her, three decades later, to present at the 2024 RACGP conference on the subject of when a GP dies.
