Whistleblower prize for paediatricians who raised alarm over Lucy Letby

The paediatricians' persistence, despite threats from hospital management, played a key role in bringing Ms Letby to trial.

UK doctors who raised the alarm about Britain’s worst child killer only to be threatened with “consequences” by hospital managers have won a prestigious whistleblower award.

Dr Ravi Jayaram, Dr Stephen Brearey, Dr John Gibbs and other paediatric consultants from the Countess of Chester Hospital will share $48,000 with eight other winners in the UK category of the 2023 Blueprint Whistleblowing Prizes.

The awards are run by Blueprint for Free Speech, a non-profit that promotes free speech and public interest whistleblowing to expose crime and corruption.

It honoured the doctors following the conviction of Lucy Letby, a nurse who murdered seven babies and attempted to kill six more, in August.
