Why family violence victims are being given secret legal advice in health clinics

It starts with a simple question during her routine health check: “How are things at home?”
Sally replies that her husband’s behaviour has changed in the year since the birth of their child; a statement that immediately raises a red flag for the nurse.
Later, as the consult uncovers some of the details, Sally is given the option of speaking to a family violence lawyer and support worker, based in the health centre.
There will be three appointments in all, but all of them are done under the guise of further health checks. The idea is that her husband won’t find out what’s happening.
