The promise of mass savings in PBS dispensing fees triggered a campaign by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia warning that pharmacies would close, presumably because of ‘reduced footfall’ through the pharmacy shop.
Guild president Professor Trent Twomey even teared up, accusing Mark Butler at one stage of “not giving a shit” about pharmacy owners.
“I had one young woman this morning in her 30s, single mum, she got her dad to put up their house as equity to buy her first pharmacy,” he said. “She will be bankrupt.”
