Dr Hannah Ward: Why I’ve joined a State Government GP hit squad

“What I get by doing this is a safety net,” says Dr Hannah Ward. “It is an employee model, and the State Government will fund my position.”
Dr Ward is part of a new hit squad: a sort of fly-in GP A-team that has been formed to give crisis support to GP practices battling to keep the doors open amid the medical workforce crisis.
Announced earlier this year, the GP Now initiative is the brainchild of the Tasmanian Government.
Dr Ward, has done work as a locum, is one of the first recruits but the team will be expanded to 10 GPs to be deployed “when and where needed”.
