Woman ‘eviscerated’ through vagina after sex: case report

The rare injury highlights the importance of abstaining for a minimum of eight weeks after a total hysterectomy, her doctors write

A middle-aged woman has been eviscerated through her vaginal opening after having sex too soon after an abdominal total hysterectomy, doctors are reporting.

In a case that highlights the importance of patients abstaining for eight weeks after the procedure, they write that the 45-year-old multiparous woman experienced lower abdominal pain and vaginal discharge after having intercourse too soon after surgery.

There was no history of fever, chills, dysuria and faecaloid discharge from her vagina.

But after she presented to the ED of the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Linkou, Taiwan, a pelvic exam revealed bowel content was protruding into her vagina with some purulent discharge, the doctors wrote in the Journal of Medical Case Reports.
