Women hospitalised with suspected botulism after unregulated botox injections: HCCC

One woman was in ICU after being injected with substances said to be botulinum toxin: HCCC

Two state regulators have issued warnings about unregulated botox injections following the hospitalisation of three women including one in ICU with suspected iatrogenic botulism.

The Health Care Complaints Commission in NSW (HCCC) and Health Complaints Commissioner in Victoria issued public alerts about Norsafiza Binti Zakaria, a non-registered practitioner operating out of residential addresses in both states.

Ms Zakaria injected at least three people with substances she claimed were botulinum toxin, at a home in Sydney in January, the NSW commission said on Friday.

“All three people suffered severe complications consistent with botulism, requiring hospitalisation—one of whom was admitted to Intensive Care,” the NSW HCCC said.
