‘Wood-lover paralysis’ from magic mushrooms a possible explanation for wellness retreat death: coroner
A coroner has highlighted a potential adverse effect of psilocybin known as ‘wood-lover paralysis’ following a woman’s death at a wellness retreat.
Rachael Dixon, 53, died in April last year after attending a retreat where she consumed tea made from about 6g of ground-up ‘magic mushroom’ powder containing psilocybin.
She had been regularly attending the retreat in Clunes, 140km north-west of Melbourne — every three months for the past 18 months — where she drank psilocybin tea to reduce her binge eating and drinking.
Before she left for her final retreat, Ms Dixon told her son she believed this retreat would lead to her “big breakthrough moment”.
