‘You need to be bashed!’: The story of a doctor driven from his home by homophobic attacks

Dr Ka Chun Tse is director of medical services for six rural towns.

Dr Ka Chun Tse and his husband David Tse were preparing an early Christmas dinner for family when the attack began.

About 10 strangers had gathered outside their home in Shepparton in rural Victoria.

Much of it was captured on CCTV. Over the next 45 minutes, some began shouting homophobic slurs such as “poofter”, accusations of being a paedophile and threats, including “You need to be bashed.”

Tree stakes were ripped from their garden and thrown at them, with one of the mob yelling: “I’m going to put it straight through his head.”
