A new era in forensic medicine – the changes set to improve outcomes for sexual assault survivors

As a medical practitioner and specialist administrator, I joined the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine last year with much anticipation, yet limited knowledge of the various medical roles within the organisation.

As each day passes, I am increasingly impressed with the breadth of knowledge my fellow specialists bring to their various roles.

Our staff includes pathologists, anthropologists, odontologists, entomologists, toxicologists, molecular biologists, tissue transplant scientists, nurses, technicians and, of course, clinical forensic physicians.

Despite the confronting nature of what we deal with, it is an amazing place to work.
