Allowing bulk-billing GPs to charge for dressings is ‘copayments by stealth’

The Medicare Review Taskforce is suggesting changing Medicare rules to allow GPs to charge fees in bulk-billed consults to cover the cost of wound dressings.

It has been widely welcomed by GPs as a mechanism to improve care; although Federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt has quickly ruled it out.

Everyone hoped for a better start to 2021, but less than one month in and we have already witnessed sedition, insurrection, impeachment, bushfires, earthquakes, the COVID-19 crisis worsening in many countries, and now Medicare copayments are back!
