As we are all now fully aware, Australia was lulled into a dangerous false sense of security over the threat of the pandemic due to our incredibly low COVID-19 community transmission.  

We felt so smug that in March this year, Prime Minister Scott Morrison even declared vaccination was “not a race”. ¹
