COVID-19 diaries: To boost or not to boost?
As we emerge from a horrible winter of COVID-19, influenza and other respiratory viruses, the COVID-19 vaccine landscape is as complex as ever.
Eligibility for the fourth COVID-19 vaccine dose was expanded by ATAGI in July to include a recommendation for those aged 50-64 years to receive it while 30-49-year-olds were made eligible to receive it but not outright recommended to do so.1
So, should those aged 30-49 choose to receive a fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine? Or should they wait for an Omicron-specific booster, which may (or may not) be available before the end of 2022?
It is important to step back and ask the question: what is the aim of COVID-19 vaccination?
