‘Do you think this could be Ebola?’: When a patient’s travels become a GP’s adventure

When Australia locked down its borders to the entire world during the pandemic, one huge source of stress was eliminated for me.
I’ve always enjoyed doing travel medicine — arranging vaccines and providing advice on how to stay well overseas.
Sometimes I can even add a few spicy tidbits about pitfalls to avoid or destination sites not to miss.
What I find problematic are the surprises that crop up immediately before departure.
