Dr Pam on becoming a ‘mormor’ grandmother
I am so wicked. I share my humanity with my patients, as they share theirs. We navigate the highs and lows of life together. It is what gives our relationships so much meaning.
When my daughter eventually became pregnant through IVF, I emailed the news to a girlfriend in Denmark. She said, “Oh, then you are going to be a mormor.” ‘Mormor’ is Danish for ‘mother’s mother’.
I had given birth to my daughter when I was living and working in Denmark. So, all things associated with babies have a Danish connotation to me.
I thought, yes, I am going to be a mormor. That is what I want to be called. I love the sound of the name, especially because I knew I would want to see my grandchild “more, more”.
