I received a letter from Medicare informing me that I had been overpaid for a medical service after I had visited a specialist for a consultation.

The specialist had always bulk-billed me, billing Medicare directly, so I couldn’t fathom how I could be overpaid when I hadn’t paid at all.

I was informed how to pay back the $76 that Medicare said I owed them.

“Our responsibilities for the management of debts are set out in the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Rule [which] places a legal responsibility to pursue recovery of debts.”
