Dr Pam’s fight to help her teen patient with an eating disorder

So, let me tell you about my day trying to help a young adult with an eating disorder.
She was ineligible for follow-up from the paediatric service, where she had previously received treatment. So, the next option was the statewide eating disorder service for adults.
Its referral form ran to three pages. It took us 2.5 hours to understand the process and fill the form in. A number of investigations were required, which needed to be done within the past month or they would not be considered ‘current’, and the service would not act on the referral. All the results of these tests needed to be included.
I arranged for all the investigations to be carried out.
