Expecting GPs to bulk-bill is absurd: It’s like asking hairdressers to pay for cutting hair
I’m just starting out in general practice, but I’m already exhausted with politicians making promises that aren’t theirs to make and weighing in on issues they know nothing about.
No matter what party is in power, GPs are stuck trying to justify to an angry public why they should be adequately compensated for their services.
I’ve already been confronted with the question: “Where are the billions going then, if not lining your own pockets?”
I will be less cynical when the government of the day invests in an item number that allows me to spend time explaining to my patients that it is the turnstile of governments not maintaining Medicare adequately over the decades that has necessitated an out-of-pocket fee.
