GPs are now employees — does it matter?

There was movement at the station, for word had got around … that payroll tax for some medical practices was here to stay.[*]
Much is yet to be written about payroll tax, its impost on practice owners and the ways to avoid paying this state-based grab for cash.
I will leave it to those who understand the intricacies of the various court rulings that have paved the way for the taxman to go knocking.
But the courts that have been assessing the legal rights and wrongs of what is happening have made it crystal clear that, for tax purposes at least (even if not for medio-legal purposes), we GPs are no more than employees.
