How my Mum’s suicide attempt made me realise the importance of community

'The landlord was horrified by her actions but he was not swayed,' writes GP Dr Pam Rachootin
Community

This holiday period was not the relaxing down time that I was hoping for. But it was rich with meaning, if emotionally draining.

I was a witness to the importance of community and friendships. A group of supporters rallied together to help a vulnerable individual during a time of crisis.

And I was blessed by their action, because they mobilised to support my 92-year-old mother who lives far away in the US.

Her landlord decided to evict her from the rental flat she has enjoyed for 14 years. It is her home. Needless to say, my mother was devastated.
